Enterprise Africa! is a research project based at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. The Center is dedicated to bringing about a freer, more prosperous and peaceful society by working at several levels of government to inject sound economic thinking into debate and policy making.
Launched in 2005 with a generous grant from the John Templeton Foundation, Enterprise Africa! contributes to this dedication by reporting on enterprise-based solutions to poverty in Africa. The project is uncovering some of the hidden success stories in Africa- stories of people and policies that make a difference in the lives of Africa’s people today. In essence, it documents African solutions to Africa’s problems. These success stories involve intrepid, committed entrepreneurs across the continent who are developing an amazing array of businesses- from small-scale shops to multinational corporations-and the institutions that support them. These entrepreneurs are promoting economic growth and are an unheralded key to poverty alleviation.
Since the Mercatus Center is 100% privately funded, it's only through supporter generosity that we can continue turning scholarly ideas into real-world action. Your support is essential.

What people are saying about the Mercatus Center:
Mr. Larry Kudlow, host of CNBC's Kudlow and Company - Mercatus introduces its audiences to some basic economic concepts...the kinds of concepts more people in America need to understand if we are to bring sensible approaches to government.
U.S. Comptroller David Walker, Department of Government Accountability - I applaud the Mercatus Center at George Mason University for continuing to provide a valuable service to the federal government and the public by offering high quality analysis to improve the quality of transparency and accountability in government.
Mercatus Board Member the Hon. Edwin Meese - Mercatus is doing important work to make scholarship relevant to help solve real problems...I'm excited to be a part of it.
And in the media...
In 2004, the Wall Street Journal said that the Mercatus Center was important but "never heard of."
Just a few years later, thanks to the generous support of people like you, policy makers, decision leaders, and people across the nation are hearing of Mercatus. More than ever Mercatus scholars are in demand to share their expertise on the topics shaping America and are appearing in dozens of local and national media outlets, including:
