Garrett Brown is the Director of Publications at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. Before joining Mercatus in February 2012, Mr. Brown was an editor in the book division of the National Geographic Society, where he acquired and developed books on a wide range of topics, from science and natural history to religion, and formats, from atlases and illustrated references to narrative nonfiction. Before joining the Society in 2005, he was the book publicist and marketing manager at the Cato Institute. With more than 16 years of experience in trade and scholarly publishing, Mr. Brown has also worked as an editor for Harcourt, the American Diabetes Association, and the American Enterprise Institute.

Mr. Brown received his BA in English language and literature from the University of California, San Diego, and his MA in English from the University of Virginia, where he concentrated his studies on 18th-century British literature.
