Ryan A. Compton is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Manitoba, a Research Fellow at the Centre for Defense and Security Studies, and a member (and past President) of the Canadian Development Economics Study Group.

Compton received his PhD in economics from Washington University and holds a graduate certificate in New Institutional Social Sciences through the Center for New Institutional Social Sciences. His research interests include growth, monetary policy, institutions, and corporate governance, and he's published across disciplines in journals such as the Canadian Business Law Journal, Economics and Politics, Tax Notes International and Applied Economics.

Compton has held visiting positions at the University of Western Ontario and the National Economics University in Hanoi, and prior to academia held positions in the Accelerated Economist Program and the Department of Finance of the Canadian government.
