Seth H. Giertz

Seth H. Giertz is currently an assistant professor of economics at the University of Nebraska since 2008. He worked for the Congressional Budget Office’s tax division from 2001 to 2008. In 2005, while on leave from CBO, Seth served as a staff economist for the President's Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform.

His research has focused on public finance and regional economics. His work has examined the effects of taxation on various parts of the economy. He has worked on tax issues relating to higher education finance, charitable giving, executive compensation, interstate migration, as well as disability policy and possible reforms to the U.S. markets for healthcare and health insurance. His work in regional economics has focused on understanding the relationship between housing prices and other parts of the economy, including a focus on the sharp drop in house prices that contributed to the Great Recession. In 2005, while on leave from CBO, Seth served as a staff economist for the President's Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform.
