Donald Boudreaux on the Trump Administration’s Protectionist Trade Policies
In response to the Trump administration’s recent actions on trade, including the withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, Donald Boudreaux notes:
In today's trade debate we hear much talk of "steelworkers," "manufacturers," "automakers," "exporters," and other producer groups. Ignored is the one and only group to which all Americans belong and whose interests count above all when assessing trade policy: consumers. By ignoring the interests of consumers, politicians and trade officials will craft trade policy that enriches a handful of Americans at the larger expense of the rest of us.
