State and Regional Zoning Atlas Datasets
The National Zoning Atlas (NZA) maps local zoning restrictions on housing construction across the United States. Click the links below to access regional and state atlas datasets.
Cornell University Professor Sara Bronin founded the NZA, and she developed the methodology with Aline Fader, Scott Markley, and Evan Derickson. A collaborative of teams have contributed to the atlas with th regional and state atlases. The Mercatus Center at George Mason University has supported several of these teams with grants, and we have compiled data from these teams, which include GeoJSON files and XLS/CSV spreadsheets.
Participating teams include:
- the Frontier Institute (Montana)
- Suffolk University Law School (Massachusetts)
- the Center for Ethics in Society at St. Anselm College (New Hampshire)
- the Regional Planning Association (New York)
- Housing Forward Virginia (Virginia)
- the Beacon Center (Middle Tennessee)
- University of North Texas (Texas)
- HousingNow!, a task force of Faith Action for Community Equity (Hawaii)
