Health Care Reform's Effect on the Federal Deficit

From 2012 to 2021, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that the health care law will decrease our federal deficit by $123 billion.  

However, corrected estimates of the law's provisions show a $1.16 trillion increase in spending and a $346 billion increase in the deficit. 

If Congress ultimately acts to overturn certain savings provisions under the ACA in a manner relatively consistent with historical precedent, spending will increase by $1.24 trillion and the deficit will increase by $527 billion.
