Andrew Ssebulime is a PhD student in Critical Dance Studies at the University of California, Riverside. He earned an MA in Dance Knowledge, Practice, & Heritage from Norwegian University of Science and Technology, University of Clermont Auvergne, University of Szeged, and Roehampton University and a BA in Music, Dance, & Drama from Makerere University. His research focuses on how folk dance practices shape cultural memory, resilience, continuity, and community empowerment for marginalized groups, particularly Ugandan immigrants, within the context of political and economic systems and policy frameworks. He hopes to investigate the ways in which dance practices contribute to the sense of belonging, identity, and empowerment among marginalized or diasporic communities.
