This paper is a response to the essays included in a special edition of Studies in Emergent Order on The Cultural and Political Economy of Recovery: Social Learning in a Post-Disaster Environment. The essays pursued the major themes of the book—ethnographic methods, the cultural and political economy of post-disaster recovery, and the nature of social learning in non-priced environments—and this article offers further reflection on each of these themes.
